Window Replacement Project - Day One

It's time for the first units to get their new windows!

Our senior section will be the first to benefit.

Here are photos of what it looked like before.

The old windows are brown which darkens the house on the inside and out.  What a difference a white window is going to make!

Check out the old window being removed from the very first unit.

And, here's what it looks like with the new slider that has been customized with features especially for our senior community completely installed.....

 WOW!

These units also have windows in back.  Look how dark it was back there before the new window was installed.

A new window instantly brightens it up, inside and out.  See for yourself.....

The window installation project has already ignited a sense of community pride.  We stood outside together watching our first windows going in and celebrating our new look and energy efficiency!

So, to wrap up Day One's activities.  Here's what we looked like at the start of the day......

And by the end of the Day One, we were transformed to this..........

Stay tuned!  Next week, we will be bustling with activity as both projects occur at the same time.  This is going to require quite a bit of coordination, cooperation, and patience.

The Unit Window Replacement Project is Gearing Up to Start

It's a flurry of activity at the Havre de Grace Housing Authority.

This equipment trailer pictured below is to the window replacement project what the pavement markings featured in a previous post are to the paving project.

What's inside this trailer?  Special windows made especially for our units!  Take a look for yourself.

Something very exciting is getting ready to happen.....again!

The Paving Project is Gearing Up to Start

Turns out, July is the optimal month for paving projects.

So, it's now July and our paving project is about to begin.

These photos show the markings on the parking lot indicating all of our repairs to be made.

The community is all excited because the markings also indicate that something great is about to happen.

Thank You to All of the Contractors who came out to Help Us!

With our projects determined, the next step is to find qualified contractors to help us bring our vision into reality.

This all starts with a pre-bid meeting.

And, ours was a huge success!

What Do We Do with the Grant Award?

So, we knew we were awarded a fantastic grant.  Our next decision was how to use the funds so they would make the greatest impact in our community.

Our decision............two major projects:

Replace all 289 of the drafty, brown windows in our townhome units with new energy efficient custom made windows.

And............

Repair and Repave the community's deteriorated parking lots.

Congratulations to the Havre de Grace Housing Authority!

Hip Hip Hooray!  Recently, the Housing Authority received its first Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Award from Harford County, Maryland.

What is the CDBG Program?

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is a flexible program that provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. Beginning in 1974, the CDBG program is one of the longest continuously run programs at HUD providing annual grants on a formula basis to 1209 general units of local government and States.

The CDBG program works to ensure decent affordable housing, to provide services to the most vulnerable in our communities, and to create jobs through the expansion and retention of businesses. It is an important tool for helping local governments tackle serious challenges facing their communities. The program has made a difference in the lives of millions of people and their communities across the Nation.

Stay tuned to our blog to how it is making a huge difference in the lives of those living within our local public housing community
